I've run RAID-1 swap actually.  If you lose your swap partition any
processes that are using it will end up dying the next
time they need to page in.  If you are trying to avoid loss of
services except during maintenance windows, I think it's a reasonable
thing to do.  Failover to a hot spare system may be
impossible/difficult for some services and RAIDing your swap helps
protect against one possible failure mode.
