Looks like Verizon is a win for you. At work we have RCN business
service. Our choices are RCN or Regus internal network (2Mbps). When we
first got RCN, the bandwidths were slow, but after a phone call the
engineer was able to reprogram our two cable modems. Essentially we
signed up for their new DOCSS 3.0 service, but it was not yet available
in Newton, so they gave us 2 20/2 DOCSIS 2 cable modems until the
service was rolled out here in Newton. As I mentioned, I have Comcast
residential at home. In any case, Cable bandwidth is controlled by the
cable modem. I suspect, in your case, your cable modem/router was either
not capable of the higher speeds, or someone at Comcast screwed up, or
both.

In 15 years watching Continental Cable Vision (Highway 1, MediaOne),
ATTBI, and Comcast I have had the least amount of trouble with Comcast.
In every case where I have had a Comcast guy come out, they not only
have arrived on time, usually they are early.

But... other people that I know from different communities have had a
lot of horror stories. I certainly do like the symetric bandwidth that
FIOS gives you.
