It's not irrelevant because the very point was that the technical
explanation you gave was wrong.  And it was.  You're a smart guy and
your technical explanations are usually excellent, and people expect
that from you.  But sometimes you say stuff that's out of left field
(which we all do), and you say it perfectly matter-of-factly, without
leaving any room for uncertainty (as, from time to time, probably most
of us do--I know I certainly have).  So I think when you do, you
should be called on it.  This is a case of that.
