This is the same symptom that eventually did in my 2605DN. The red
color begins to fade, and changing the toner cartridge doesn't help.
There is reportedly a solution, which is a manual cleaning process
that takes an hour or two:

This is why I replaced my printer with the M451dn. (Which,
incidentally, has noticeably superior output quality. A lot has
changed in the past N years, I guess!) Good luck.
