According to that, recompilation is exactly what needed to be done.
Though not trivial to do so for "a minimum of 250 packages."

It sounds like the hurdle might have been more about pulling together
volunteers willing to create and maintain a full distribution port.
Perhaps some politics to get it considered an official port.
