Slackware problem

I just received and installed Slackware 3.4. I had no problems with
the installation. It is resident in a DOS partition separate from Windows95.
Everything appears to be OK, however I can't open any
manuals. When I type "man whatevercommandfiledocumentormanetc" I don't get
any text on the
screen, no matter where I am in the file system, even in the manual
itself. I am a new and inexperienced user of Linux. I would greatly
appreciate any input. Thanks. Mike Dacey. kmxd at msn.com.
