Wintel Modems on Linux

you want Linux to use a Winmodem? ... sofar the answer is

... suck it up and go buy a real modem ...

Yea, it is crude, but it is real. ... Sorry to deliver the bad
news, but get a real (not WIN modem) and it will work well.

The reasons are in licensing. Sofar, IMU, the vendors will
provide Linux developers source, but will not allow their code
to be released under the open source license. So, the Linux
developers are not using the code, and sofar, they are not
interested enough to re-engineer it for equipment that sucks
cpu rather than using the hardware built into the modem.

The same reasoning is use for not currently supporting winprinters.

I hope this helps. ... JC
