help samba

It is important that you specify what version of Samba. I would strongly 
suggest that you download the latest bits from the Samba web 
site:http://www.samba.org/.
What do you mean you can not log into the Linux box from the Windows box. 
Do you mean that Windows98 cannot see the Linux shares, or are you trying 
to use telnet, which is different.
