DNS errors: ns_initparse: Message too long

I've got a DNS server that's not propagating changes. I tried to verify it
via named-xfer on solaris, but named-xfer gives the following error:

    ns_initparse: Message too long

Any idea what this means, or what I should look for to fix it?
