The compiler is a "cost option" with Solaris. You can file Solaris binaries for gcc, etc., at http://smc.vnet.net/solaris_2.6.html - Subcription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" on the first line of the message body to discuss-request at blu.org (Subject line is ignored).
