I don't remember if previous versions had this problem. When formatting the hard drive, there is no progress report. This is more of a problem than it used to be because (1) drives are quieter than they used to be and (2) drives are MUCH bigger than they used to be. So my two hard-drive related tips are: (1) Partition and format the drive ahead of time. If you have an existing box and are installing a new hard drive to put the upgrade on (my situation), bring down your server and install the hard drive. Bring it back up. Format it at your leasure. Then, when you do the install, you decrease your downtime by an hour or more. (2) If you don't do (1), when it says it's formatting, flip to text screen 1 by pressing <CTL><ALT><F1>, where you will see the output of the format command, complete with progress report. When done, press <ALT><F7> to get back to the graphics mode. - Subcription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" on the first line of the message body to discuss-request at blu.org (Subject line is ignored).
