Read-only /var/spool/mail problems

Is there a way to invoke the mail reader directly?  I'd rather not tell her 
she has to boot up Netscape (I still can't get her out of the habit of 
clicking the icon 4 times while she waits for it to boot :)) in order to see 
her mail.
