Linux OS (fwd)

Manesh;

I'm forwarding this question to our discussion list. I haven't tried umsdos
in the past five years, and I've no idea how recent Linux distributions
would
run on a 486. Even five years ago, running X was painfully slow with less
than
16 MB of RAM.

Hello John,

  I am a first year college student and an looking for a small linux =
dist. that will work on a 486, 8MD RAM and 300 MD Hard Drive. I am only =
going to do compiling on system (cc). I would like to have a GUI =
interface if possible. Do you know any versions out there that would =
work in my case?

Note: I do not want to have a linux part. on the drive, if i can help =
it. If there is a UMDOS then I would like to us that.

Please reply ASAP.

Thank You,
Mahesh B
