Deleting files from an RPM

I am trying to install two RPMs on Red Hat 7.1, but I am running into a conflict because the RPMs contain an overlap with respect to files. When I try to install the second RPM, I get an error that a file contained in the fist RPM (identified in the error message) conflicts with unidentified files in the second RPM. I tried deleting the conflicting file, but it does not solve the problem. I suspect this is because installing the RPM registers the file in the system. Any way to clear that so the second RPM will load?

Regards,
