Tim, I have enough AMD 2100+ for a 64 node but not enough funding (ca$h) so it will wind up initially at 32 nodes. I'm relying upon the Biostar M7VKQ motherboard which has a 10/100 nic on board, 1/2G RAM, and we're going diskless. I chose PVC because is easy to cut, drill and assemble, lightweight and affordable. My rack cost me (without components) about $200. I'm working with Kurt Keville at DeBUG on the project...we should be having a Beowulf InstallFest shortly at the college...come on over. Watch the DeBUG website http://www.extreme-linux.com/default.html for details! Kevin, This sounds very cool! How many nodes are going to be in your cluster and what networking are you going todo between them? You might want to check out http://distcc.samba.org it works great with a minimum of setup. As for the rack stuff, why PVC? Thanks, Tim. -----Original Message----- From: kgleason.ma.ultranet at rcn.com [mailto:kgleason.ma.ultranet at rcn.com] Sent: Wednesday, January 08, 2003 0:16 AM To: discuss at blu.org Subject: Anyone have experience with PVC piping? As stated in a previous posting I am building a (Linux-based)Beowulf Cluster using a rack orientation. My rack is made of PVC piping. My question: Does anyone know how to clean off the PVC lettering (sometimes in Blue or Black) along the PVC pipe. I don't want to ruin the glossy finish (if possible) but the lettering is getting to me. Any ideas? Thanks.
