Unix admin experience (as opposed to Linux) is okay but some prior Linux admin experience is required. # Demonstrated experience administrating load balanced and/or high availability (Linux Virtual Server) Linux systems or Linux clusters. Please describe. # Must have a passion for security. Must be expert in analyzing networks for vulnerabilities, securing systems, creating/configuring firewalls (iptables), intrusion detection systems (snort, tripwire), configuring Apache/PHP/MySQL/other services, building/configuring Red Hat servers. Waking up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat about the latest OpenSSH remote root exploit a plus. # Must be an expert in Linux system administration - shell scripting, Perl/Python, RPM, patching/configuring Linux kernels (2.4.xx), identifying and updating out of date packages, etc. Must also have the maturity to know when NOT to upgrade or install the most bleeding edge version of (whatever) and why. # Demonstrated experience tuning Apache, PHP, MySQL for optimum performance (hundreds of concurrent connections). # Experience with server/network monitoring systems (Netsaint/Nagios/etc) a big plus. # Experience tuning SQL queries, tables, indexes, etc. for speed a big plus. # Web development experience with PHP, Perl, and/or Python a big plus. Will occasionally be responsible for creating web-based configuration/admin pages and metrics/statistics pages for use by non-technical users. # Experience testing networks/servers for performance and identifying bottlenecks required. # Responsible for upkeep, availability, and monitoring of Red Hat-based server farm serving over 40 million daily impressions; maintenance of existing servers/networking equipment and installation/configuration of new servers # Must possess excellent communication skills and ability to interact and work closely with both developers and non-technical users.
