hi, i'm trying to install gpa (gnu privacy assistant) 0.7.0 on redhat 9. what a pain in the ass! has anybody else done this? when i tried to install gpa it said it needed gpgme, which said it needed libgpg-error, which said it needed gpgsm (actually newpg, i think), which of course needed libksba and libcrypt. wow. so i hunt all these things down (why are they all not in one place in a noob proof rpm?) proper version numbers and all, and two hours later i'm stuck at; make[3]: Entering directory `/home/eric/PGP/gpgme/gpgme-0.4.3/tests/gpgsm' /usr/local/bin/gpgsm --homedir . --import ./cert_g10code_test1.der /usr/local/bin/gpgsm: error while loading shared libraries: libgcrypt.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory make[3]: *** [pubring.kbx] Error 127 make[3]: Leaving directory `/home/eric/PGP/gpgme/gpgme-0.4.3/tests/gpgsm' make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/eric/PGP/gpgme/gpgme-0.4.3/tests' make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/eric/PGP/gpgme/gpgme-0.4.3' make: *** [all] Error 2 this during the gpgme install. i thought everything was going cool, no errors, then this. is there an easy answer other than "use the command line"? i can use the command line but prefer a snazy gui. i'm learning java, couldn't i whip up something to enter the commands for me? why all these libraries that don't seem to work together so well? is it not as easy to make a gui for gnupg as it seems? if nobody has used this it's no biggy, it can be considered a rant i guess. thanks for any pointers. eric. -- Check out http://home.comcast.net/~235u "Loki_the_Doppelganger" -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
