Reading Code

Has anyone read the book Code Reading by Spinellis? Would you
recommend it? I'm thinking I'd like to follow the advice
in the preface about taking advantage of free software as
an example to improve my own coding. Other than the examples
in the book, can anyone recommend some small programs with
especially elegant, readable code?
