My HP LJ1200 was cheap at the Micro Center, but to compensate for that, I added memory, bringing it up to 72 MB. With the original 8 MB, it broke up pages with large graphics, printing portions of them on separate sheets. Now it's fine. For a while I tried to attach it directly to the LAN with a pocket-sized Hawking print server, but that needed to be reset constantly. Connecting it to my Linux server by a parallel cable or by USB works easily, and CUPS knows how to use it. I only print a few pages per week, and the initial cartridge lasted well over a year. The print quality has been uniformly good. --RC
