On my mac pro- I think due to the dual core dual processor architecture they do require you to buy ram in pairs of the same size, however you don't need to have all dimms the same size: Ex. I have 2 2GB and 2 512MB, check your motherboard specs and look around online to see how to upgrade your particular ram on your computer. If you have a dell it should be all online. ~Ben On Nov 13, 2007 2:04 PM, Dan Ritter <[hidden email]> wrote: > On Tue, Nov 13, 2007 at 01:50:47PM -0500, Seth Gordon wrote: > > I have some dim recollection that you can't mix DIMMs of different sizes > > on the same motherboard, so if I want to upgrade the desktop to 2 GB, I > > either need to get two 512-MB DIMMs, or I need to throw out my existing > > memory and get two 1-GB DIMMs. Is this true? > > Generally, no.
