2007/12/20, Matt Shields <[hidden email]>: > As much as I hate comcast, I run all my linux machines on it and there > is no windows activation crap or having to login to use it. But when > they do the install you need to tell them to plug in the modem and > just leave that you will do the rest. Also, if/when you call support > you won't get much help. Not entirely true: http://shardz.homelinux.net/images/screenshots/comcastsucks.png My friend in Colorado had the same problem. We both ended up using a windows machine to complete the process. :/ Also, comcast.net can be a bit weird: http://shardz.homelinux.net/images/screenshots/oh_shit_thats_lame.png (That's Macgyver in the bottom left, despite what it might suggest. Also, I've since then setup a SixXS tunnel, if you read my conversation with Steve Pomeroy.) Comcast support is horrendous. They blame everything on the fact that I'm using a router, and wont even listen to me until I claim I'm no longer using it (because it's probably a problem caused by my 3rd party device). They say routers aren't supported.. do they want me to pay for a new connection for every machine?! I only shudder to think what minimal support Australian ISPs might have for Linux, especially after reading http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/12/18/215258 . (I'm moving there this summer, that's why). Despite all the horror stories about Comcast I can give, I hear that Verizon is much, much worse. -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean. _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list [hidden email] http://lists.blu.org/mailman/listinfo/discuss
