The X41 and its successor (the X61?) are tablets with a swiveling display that folds on top of the keyboard and have a stylus for input in "tablet" mode. Mine has no optical drive but has the regular assortment of USB, memory card, and PCMCIA ports. It's a bit of a compromise on size, I've found that with the smaller lighter computer, I take it with me everywhere and it's even become my primary computer at home. I only use my Imac G5 when I need more CPU power or more pixels. Ubuntu Linux works perfectly on my X41 and I use CellWriter for character input via stylus when necessary. I use it in Tablet mode to take meeting notes and to read PDFs in Adobe Reader with a Bookmark plugin ( http://www.pdfhacks.com/bookmark_page/ ). Sorry that was a bit rambly... In conclusion, Thinkpads rock, and get a tablet if you can afford to have a smaller screen and no optical drive.
