It's a simple fix because I don't really need any of those packages.
So I removed them and now things work.
The only thing that isn't simple is reporting the problem, which is
probably why it's a problem.

Yes, mixer problems are an whole 'nother can of worms, but as far as I
can tell, they have nothing to do with this particular issue.
