I know SAGE has a salary survey, which I assume to be good, but I don't have access to it. I generally find the Robert Half Salary Guide (free) rhi.com to be useful and reliable. It breaks things down pretty well in greater detail for the technical job roles and seems to corroborate what I've seen personally and also heard from recruiters. Thanks for the tip on glassdoor.com salary.com seems less and less useful as time goes by because it's a PITA to actually get accurate / relevant info from. There is also US Bureau of Labor and Statistics http://www.bls.gov/ro1/news.htm#wages which by their very nature has the most data. http://www.bls.gov/ncs/ocs/sp/ncbl1273.txt Table 12. Therefore, a worker with a 35-hour-per-week schedule might be considered a full-time employee in one establishment, but classified as part-time in another firm, where a 40-hour week is the minimum full-time schedule. 2 Workers are classified by occupation using the 2000 Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) system. See appendix B for more information. 3 Earnings are the straight-time hourly wages or salaries paid to employees. They include incentive pay, cost-of-living adjustments, and hazard pay. Excluded are premium pay for overtime, vacations, holidays, nonproduction bonuses, and tips. The mean is computed by totaling the pay of all workers and dividing by the number of workers, weighted by hours. See appendix A for more information. 4 Mean weekly earnings are the straight-time weekly wages or salaries paid to employees. Median weekly earnings designates position - one-half of the hours are paid the same as or more than the rate shown. Mean weekly hours are the hours an employee is scheduled to work in a week, exclusive of overtime. 5 Mean annual earnings are the straight-time annual wages or salaries paid to employees. Median annual earnings designates position - one-half of the hours are paid the same as or more than the rate shown. Mean annual hours are the hours an employee is scheduled to work in a year, exclusive of overtime. SOURCE: Bureau of Labor Statistics, National Compensation Survey When filing a job, ask the bazillion recruiters who call what salary they just placed a similar candidate at. They are the ones who are doing this daily in your market -- supposedly with the talent you are looking for. I was able to get some good information that way -- although at the same time the candidates that recruiters were sending me were NOT as qualified as the people that I was sourcing through craigslist etc. Greg Rundlett
