I am currently hosted as a "guest" or "secondary domain" of a person who is
subscribed to dreamhost, exactly as you're talking about, Eric. You should
seriously consider dreamhost. They allow you to create a reseller account
with unlimited domains, and it's ok if those domains belong to your
customers, although, it's not good enough for me. (details below)

The main thing is ... I am very hands-on, and since I'm getting dreamhost
through someone else ... he's the guy who's in charge of all my dreamhost
stuff. It's very good for him, and not very good for me.

Assuming your customers are people who are entrusting you with their
websites cuz they don't want to do it themselves ... then you should
seriously consider dreamhost. If your clients are instead, people who want
to muck with their own dns entries, create/destroy/backup their own mysql
servers, upgrade/provision etc their own php settings... If your customers
are like me, then dreamhost would be bad for them. Cuz you'd have to be in
control.

One important point. Dreamhost will occasionally change IP addresses of
servers. They won't tell you. You *must* not configure your own DNS
outside of them, or else your services will surprise unexpectedly go down
from time to time. You must use dreamhost dns servers as your domain dns
servers. That's the only way.

I personally refuse to use dreamhost dns servers, and as a result, their
service is not good enough for me.

I am switching to prmgr. I'm a very new customer, but a very satisfied one,
nonetheless.
