[Discuss] Disabling UEFI and dual booting Linux and Windows

FYI...

Dual-boot Windows 8 and Ubuntu 12.10 on UEFI hardware
http://www.linuxbsdos.com/2012/11/05/dual-boot-windows-8-and-ubuntu-12-10-on-uefi-hardware/

So, I got a friend to lend me his copy of Windows 8 Pro. Armed with
it, and an installation image of Ubuntu 12.10 Desktop, I set out to
see if dual-booting the latest offerings from Microsoft and Mark
Shuttleworth's outfit will pose any major obstacles on a motherboard
  with UEFI firmware.

I don't think this really answers the question raised in this thread,
because I believe some people were asserting that it mattered whether
Windows was pre-installed on the machine. In the article above it sounds
like the author is installing both OSs.
