If your data is valuable enough to send to a recovery center for $1,000, then it's valuable enough to add a mirror for $100.  

Go crazy and make it a 3-way mirror.  $200

There's never a situation where the drive recovery option is a good choice.  All such failures could have been prevented for a fraction of the cost via redundancy and/or backups.
