I heard what you said about not spending money on a new server, and understand completely. If it becomes absolutely necessary for you to buy new hardware, "new" means something from Pentium or Celeron on up from the late 90's or early to mid 00's. There might still be people throwing these away, and they just might work well enough to do what you need to do. Around where I live, there's a used computer store where you can get a 10 year old Dell desktop for under $200, and that will be much more than enough to run anything you need for StarOffice.
