Runit, S6, Nitro and several other init systems handle dependencies very well, and yes, they do parallel instantiation. Making a choice by comparing it to something even worse and ignoring all the better choices doesn't lead to an optimal outcome. And almost every systemd "solution" solved a problem solved years or decades before. A new cron, a new home directory, a new system of mounting. Socket activation instead of xinetd. In every case, same functionality, but double or more complexity. Which brings us back to an arcane shellscript that appears to hang on the cd command. SteveT Steve Litt http://444domains.com
