There are multiple good sources of Linux these days. I suggest you consider:
a) reading the ads in The Linux Journal (you can get this at SoftPro in
Burlington or at Quantum in Cambridge)
b) buy something like the Caldera distribution

Yes you should partition your disk. It's not that bad. These days you
don't need two disks but you should definitly buy a 1gig drive which is not
a great expense.
gotchas:
make sure you buy a nice normal mainstream sound card.
buy a scsi CD over an IDE CD if you have a choice, as they are easier to
configure with Linux
look around in the Linux world and make sure your graphics hardware is
supported by XWindows
