Kinda but kinda not?

Virtual machines have been around for decades and they were okay. It's
the more recent use of VMs and containers to distribute appliances
which has lead to the proliferation of garbage. Have I ranted recently
about how ShareLaTeX cannot be built by following the developers' build
instructions?

Really, I think it's wrong to blame the tool (VM, container) for
the rampant abuse of the tool.
