About 40 years ago, my wife, Pat, had her colon and rectum removed due to colitis. We knew every public bathroom in Northern Maine. After her surgery, she was back to her old self. She climbed mountains, ran white water rivers, raced sled dog teams and WON!, All of this while wearing a pouch on her abdomen to receive her intestinal waste. She became an expert about all this. She taught people who had the surgery about it. 

Jan has encouraged many people, including me, to improve their hearing. She is an expert on the subject. You two will get through this interruption in your schedules. If she does not get reconnected as part of the initial surgery, life can still be enjoyed.
