Booting X-Windows

Equipment:
P133 32meg RAM hda=1.68Gb, hdb=3.8Gb, VGA=Diamond Stealth 64PCI

Linux= Redhat 4.0

Partitions hdb:
p1=40mb swap
extended, then
l1=30mb /
l2=400mb /usr
l3=400mb /home
l4=80mb /usr/local

Problem:
Linux works fine, but can't get X to boot. Configured with MetroX,
selecting Diamond Stealth 64 PCI driver, trying various resolutions, but
monitor goes blank, and its on/off light goes from green to orange! 

Start X with xinit -- -bpp 24, and also tried 8, and X window starts to
show, then goes blank with monitor on/off going from green to orange.

Please Help - I'm desperate for X.
