Boot Sequence Problems

Hi all,

I installed Mandrake 8.0 last night and the boot process hangs while
checking hardware. This did not happen with LM 7.2.

Right after a section where it checks ports, there is a line similar to

SMSC Super-IO Checking ports 270,

Here is where it just sits for ever, whether I boot from the floppy boot
disk, -SMP, +SMP.

I can boot into single user fine. My question: is there a way around this
check?
Others have this problem but no one has ventured a solution to it.

Abit BP6 dual C433 ( booting with or without -SMP still hangs ) .
