Is there a difference between usb and usb 2.0?

Many thanks to all for the help. The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite
2805-S301. I believe this url should bring up the detailed specs:

http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_outFrm.jsp?moid=1073810427&ct=DS&BV_SessionID=@@@@1098237194.1072064561@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccciadckelfggegcgfkceghdgngdgll.0

I don't believe it has firewire, but I could be wrong on that.

Question: If I understand correctly, it's OK to buy a usb 2.0 device for a
usb 1.1 machine, it'll just run slowly? (It's OK to run slowly for now. I
can buy the PCMCIA card a bit later.)
