I'm pretty sure I tried that (after trying to set up the point-to-point 
link), and I ended up with route -n returning this:

Network       Gateway       ... Device
192.168.1.245 0.0.0.0       ... eth1
0.0.0.0       192.168.1.245 ... eth1

...and again, no access to anything other than the wireless base station.

I'll try again tonight and report back.
