Actually you make a good point. I was never a customer service rep, an SE or CE, but I did have to make some field trips. I learned not to ask "did you do this". I was taught to ask the tech on site to open up the skins and tell me what the rev level of a particular board is, or in Linux and Unux, run things like uname and tell me what they say.
