[Discuss] Trying to connect to internet in Debian

I do use a firewall in one very important way.

I have a personal network, with a physical router box between it and the
outside world.

A new computer, a Mac, came to live on the network, not mine, not
actively used, but its contents were need for reference purposes.

Its previous owner seemed to have been sloppy and installed some
nastyware that occasionally sent junk e-mail. So I added a rule to block
outbound port 25 (smtp) for all but the IP addresses that needed to do
outbound port 25.

And then I got the IP address taken off a spam blacklist.

Firewalls *do* have their uses.
