Abstract

Chris gives a short overview and demo of Nagios, a system for monitoring networked systems and devices and alerting a sysadmin when devices need attention. Brian will demonstrate the Genesi Efika MX Smarttop running Ubuntu 10.10 - and a medley of programs in C, Python, Java, Ruby, Haskell, and Scala. As a special for BLU, group attendees may each buy one Efika MX Smarttop at the meeting for $100. GNOME 3, released on April 6, offers an exciting new user experience with a streamlined approach that emphasizes the focus on tasks and bringing relevant information to the user as needed. GNOME 3 takes advantage of the graphics capabilities of modern hardware to provide attractive and easy-to-understand visuals. Owen Taylor and Jon McCann, Red Hat's lead developer and lead designer of GNOME 3, will give a tour of the GNOME 3 user interface and show how it is motivated by basic design principles. The technology behind GNOME 3 will also be covered at a high level.
