DGL capability

I don't know if this is a help request email address but I would
appreciate any help you may offer.
I have been using Linux now for about 4 years, but I am no expert. I
have an application on an SGI machine running IRIX 5.3 and I export the
DISPLAY environment variable to disply the application on my Linux
system's display. The remote system complains that my system is not DGL
capable. Is there a way around this other than physically sitting at
the SGI machine?

Thanks for your time and consideration.
