In your case, I'd prefer the X11 login process to add the new login
to a group which has access to the devices.  EX: create a group called 'gui',
add read/write for 'gui' to all neccessary devices, and then when I login
via the X11 xdm-login, I get added to the 'gui' group.  It's still not
a "pretty" implementation, but I prefer that over changing permissions
on devices everytime someone logs in....
