I'm using Slackware, and get a similar set of `modprobe can't locate`'s. only mine are: pf-4, pf-5 and pf-3; in that order. I don't think too much about it, because everything seems to be working OK. They show up at boot time and in my /var/log/messages at seemingly random intervals. Any connection, I wonder? ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: Re: RH 6.0 / Modem Problem Author: Brad Noyes <maitre at ccs.neu.edu> at InterNet Date: 10/20/99 12:21 AM Correct me if i'm wrong anyone, But think that you can get rid of this problem by adding these three lines to your /etc/modules.conf file alias ppp-compress-21 bsd_comp alias ppp-compress-24 ppp_deflate alias ppp-compress-26 ppp_deflate Hope this helps, -Brad On Wed, 20 Oct 1999, John Stark wrote: > >%_I'm trying to install RH6.0 for the first time and have been using linxconf to configure the modem. The modem gives the appearance of being connected to the ISP but when I start up Netscape and try to download an external webpage, it reports that the page is not accessible. This is an Askey Modem which the dealership thinks is safe for Linux. > > > Thanks, > John Stark > ---------------------------------------- Content-Type: text/html; name="unnamed" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Content-Description: ---------------------------------------- - Subcription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" on the first line of the message body to discuss-request at blu.org (Subject line is ignored). -------------- next part -------------- Received: from ns.learningco.com ([198.112.0.7]) by mail.learningco.com with SMTP (IMA Internet Exchange 3.12) id 00002977; Wed, 20 Oct 1999 04:13:03 -0400 Received: by ns.learningco.com; id EAA24616; Wed, 20 Oct 1999 04:11:14 -0400 (EDT) Received: from tarnhelm.blu.org(207.31.228.20) by ns.learningco.com via smap (V4.2) id xma024602; Wed, 20 Oct 99 04:11:04 -0400 Received: (from majordom at localhost) by tarnhelm.blu.org (8.8.7/8.8.7) id DAA07420 for discuss-outgoing; Wed, 20 Oct 1999 03:28:42 -0400 Received: from relay20.smtp.psi.net (relay20.smtp.psi.net [38.8.20.2]) by tarnhelm.blu.org (8.8.7/8.8.7) with ESMTP id DAA07417 for <discuss at blu.org>; Wed, 20 Oct 1999 03:28:40 -0400 Received: from [209.61.79.73] (helo=jupiter) by relay20.smtp.psi.net with smtp (Exim 1.90 #1) id 11dnKX-0002G2-00; Wed, 20 Oct 1999 00:26:31 -0400 From: Brad Noyes <maitre at ccs.neu.edu> To: John Stark <stark at tiac.net> Subject: Re: RH 6.0 / Modem Problem Date: Wed, 20 Oct 1999 00:21:40 -0400 X-Mailer: KMail [version 1.0.20] Content-Type: text/plain Cc: discuss at Blu.Org References: <002201bf1ac6$a5d66040$2abafea9 at vicky> MIME-Version: 1.0 Message-Id: <99102000260404.00798 at jupiter> Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Sender: owner-discuss at blu.org Precedence: bulk
