This one may be WAY off, but it's worth considering. I know that on Sun 4u machines you can't reliably run the probe-scsi command after a halt or Stop-A. Normally one has to set auto-boot?=false and reset the machine in order to probe the buses without hanging the system. I'm sure it's well documented, but I've run into enough people (including myself at times) who've forgotten about it. Matthew J.
