Linux to Linux printing

I am trying to print over the internet from one RH 6.1 Linux machine to
another. I used printtool to set up appropriate local and remote entries
in printcap.

I put the hostname in /etc/hosts.lpd on the remote machine. I restarted
lpd.

However when I try to print, lpc on the local machine tells me that it has
the entry in its spool area but is waiting for the remote machine to come
up.

I use ssh between the two machines and have disabled most entries in
inetd.conf. Is this the problem? Does an entry in hosts.lpd look like an
entry in hosts with IP number and name?

Any suggestions or pointers will be greatly appreciated.
