Help with disk crash (long)

> I would like a recommendation of a good tape unit.

I've been using an HP DDS-3 DAT drive for backup at our shop for several years
now. It sits on my Linux box, and happily backs up 4 SunOS, 1 Solaris,
5 Linux, and 10 Win95/95, and 2 WinNT systems each night (all on a single
tape!). It has a SCSI interface.

My DDS-3 unit just failed - after 3 years, and I don't consider that bad
when compared with the Exabyte 8mm we had used previously.

We decided not to spend the $200 to repair that unit, but to get a replacement
HP DDS-4 drive, with a mind to increased capacity in the next few years.
