First, I would get the Unix Systems Administrator's Handbook (the latest
one is purple, I've heard it referred to as "The Barney Book"). Linux &
Unix are almost the same, and it's one of the better books out there.
The other book I used in my early learning was "Mastering Linux Premium
Edition," a Sybex book. Others will probably have other recommendations,
as well.

I would also recommend setting up a small network at home (2 cheap
computers to start with) where you can play around with the stuff.
There's nothing like doing it to make you understand.

Thought for today: vgrep /vee'grep/ v.,n.

 Visual grep. The operation of
finding patterns in a file optically rather than digitally (also
called an `optical grep'). See grep; compare vdiff.
