Need help on the ip configuration

Hi all,

I changed the ip address and found out it didn't work.
first, I stop the network use the command: ifdown eth0,
then modified the /etc/sysconfig/network and also network script on eth0.
I then restart the network: ifup eth0,
I used the netstat -r and found empty on the default route.
I also tried re-boot the system, I got the same result.
I could browse the web, but ping didn't work even though ping its own ip address.
can anyone help ? what I did something wrong ?

Thanks
