Your system is in runlevel 5, which means it will try to keep X running at all times. X is probably running on Virtual Terminal 7. You can switch to a different terminal by pressing CTRL-ALT-F# where '#' is 1-6. That should get you a familiar text-mode login on VT1-VT6. You can switch back to X by pressing ALT-F7. If you want the system NOT to run X automatically you can edit the "/etc/inittab" file, changing the line: id:5:initdefault: to id:3:initdefault: This tells init to go to runlevel 3 (multiuser) instead of 5 (multiuser w/ X) on the next boot. I'm sure Mandrake has an easier way to do this, but I don't happen to know it. - -- -Matt A day without fusion is like a day without sunshine. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE8asY2c8/WFSz+GKMRAlSOAJ4yGZAElO4AuMfrH5nEzt+hdsmlVQCffvIe k02lOpGCvvNoUph+8y7V3rM= =FdL/ -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
