A while ago I mentioned a test being conducted at Tent City in Boston of a WiFi mesh network relying on Free/Open Source routing software developed at MIT that runs via Linux. Here are the test results: http://www.pdos.lcs.mit.edu/roofnet/doku.php?id=april2 The software is being ported to Netgear WGT634U routers which are currently selling for under $100 http://www.compuplus.com/insidepage.php3?refer=nextag&id=1002376 Relatedly, there are a couple of forums and a WiFi summit coming up in Boston to examine whether the City can increase avaiability of free and low-cost Wifi citywide. We also thank MIT for the use of their facilities. |
