When: May 18, 2005 7:00PM (6:30 for Q&A) Topic: Programming with POSIX Threads Moderator: Jerry Feldman Location: MIT Building E51 Room 145 * What is threads - very generic to include Sun's lwp. * Why use threads more in the context of single-threaded app vs. multi-threaded app and threads vs. fork(). * Kernel threads vs. user threads. This is important in Linux 2.6 kernels with NPTL. * Basic thread concepts and functions: thread creation, thread join, mutex, conditions, attributes. * Some simple examples. For more information and directions please go to the BLU main site: http://www.blu.org. Note that there is sufficient parking in the parking lot at the Amherst st. entrance of the building and accross the street on the corner of Amherst and Hayward St. The building is approximately one block from the Kendall Sq. T station. -- Jerry Feldman <gaf at blu.org> Boston Linux and Unix user group http://www.blu.org PGP key id:C5061EA9 PGP Key fingerprint:053C 73EC 3AC1 5C44 3E14 9245 FB00 3ED5 C506 1EA9 -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
